The Regent Proclamation Ceremony

The Sultan of Terengganu, HRH Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin gaves his consent to proclaim his first son, Tengku Muhammad Ismail as the Regent of Terengganu. The proclamation ceremony is done at Maziah Palace, Terengganu. The proclamation is made after Tengku Muhammad Ismail, 12, has reached Mukallaf, an age where he can made his own decision. The proclamation is made due to the absent of the reigning Sultan of Terengganu to ruled the state after been installed as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia.

Previously, Tengku Muhammad Ismail held the title as the state’s Regent but the state’s administration is under the supervision of The Chaiman of MPPR, Tengku Baderulzaman. With the proclamation, the Regent Advisory Council (MPPR) is automatically dissolved.

In the ceremony, three person been chosen by Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin as the Regent Representatives Council due to the absent of Tengku Muhammad Ismail in the state to study abroad. The representatives consist of Tengku Mustaffa Kamel, Tengku Sri Bendahara Raja; Tengku Sulaiman Sultan Ismail, Tengku Sri Laksamana Raja; and Datuk Abdul Kadir Sulaiman.

The name Terengganu derived from the malay word, Terang Ganu which means “The bright rainbow”. It is known for its Arabic honorific of Darul Iman, Abode of Faith. Terengganu is among the main oil producer states in Malaysia alongside Sabah and Sarawak. Terengganu also has its own Terengganese Malay accents which differ from standard Malay Language and Kelantanese Malay accents.
