11th May 2010 – The Chairman of Tengku Arif Temenggung Turtle Sanctuary, Datuk Seri Tengku Kamarulzaman ibni Sultan Abu Bakar gaves his opinion to the Pahang State Government to banned any kind of trading of turtle egg. In addition, the Pahang State Government should follow the footstep of Sabah and Sarawak that has banned such activity due to the fact that the species is currently faces a threat of extinction.

Tengku Kamarulzaman optimist that the banned order of turtle egg trading will ensure the increased to the Turtle population and one way of tourist attraction to Tioman Island. If the banned is issued, Pahang will become the first state in Peninsular Malaysia to announce such order. According to the state tourism Committee Chairman, Datuk Shafik Fauzan Shariff said, the idea of banning turtle egg selling will be presented at the State Executives Councillor Meeting as soon as possible.

Up until now, there is only one Turtle Protection Center in Tioman Island located at Kampung Juara which was established in 2006. The Sultan of Pahang, HRH Sultan Ahmad Shah ibni almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar is the patron to the protection center.
