Petronas Twin Towers

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you..
Welcome to my blog.

In the past segment of architectural post, we have seen some of the tallest building in the world. Let us proceed futher into some of their counterparts. Let us seen the building that has become a international branding to its country, Malaysia. The Petronas Twin Towers.

Photobucket

It has been entitled as the tallest building in the world from 1998 to 2004 before being surpass by Taipei 101. Nevertheless, it still the tallest twin tower in the world. The tower is design by César Pelli. The contractor for tower 1 is Hazama Corporation from Japan while contractor for tower 2 are Samsung Engineering & Construction and Kukdong Engineering & Construction from Korea.

Currently, it serve as the 2nd tallest building in the world. After the completion of Burj Dubai, its rank will be the 3rd tallest building in the world.

CHARACTERISTICS

The buildings were built on the world's deepest foundations. The 120-meter foundations were built by Bachy Soletanche, and required massive amounts of concrete.

petronas twin towers

The 88-floor towers are constructed largely of reinforced concrete, with a steel and glass facade designed to resemble motifs found in Islamic art, a reflection of Malaysia's Muslim religion. Another Islamic influence on the design is that the cross-section of the towers is based on a Rub el Hizb (albeit with circular sectors added to meet office space requirements). Due to a lack of steel and the huge cost of importing steel, the towers were constructed on a cheaper radical design of super high-strength reinforced concrete.

High-strength concrete is a material familiar to Asian contractors and twice as effective as steel in sway reduction; however, it makes the building twice as heavy on its foundation than a comparable steel building. Supported by 23-by-23 meter concrete cores and an outer ring of widely-spaced super columns, the towers use a sophisticated structural system that accommodates its slender profile and provides from 1300 to 2000 square metres of column-free office space per floor.

PURPOSE

Tower One is fully occupied by Petronas and a number of its subsidiaries and associate companies. The office spaces in Tower Two are mostly available for lease to other companies. A number of companies have offices in Tower Two, including Accenture, Al Jazeera English, Carigali Hess Bloomberg, Boeing, IBM, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, McKinsey & Co, TCS, HCL Technologies, Krawler Networks, Microsoft, The Agency (a modeling company) and Reuters.

Below the twin towers is Suria KLCC, a shopping mall, and Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, the home of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.

COMMENT

The building is inspired by Malaysia's Father of Modernization, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Before the time of the tower, Malaysia is the least known country compare to its neighbours like Singapore, Thailand or Indonesia. After the completion of the tower, it did gave a huge impact to Malaysia to be well-known through out the globe.

The last student

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you..
Welcome to my blog.

I was amazed by one article in Harian Metro this morning. School with only one student. A very interesting fact. Believe it or not, this is happening to SRJKT Ladang Sungai Timah and its only student, K Humah.

The last student

K Humah, 12, a standard 6 student will taking her UPSR this year taking about 30 minutes communicating to school by boat said that she is really lonely due to the fact that she has no other friends to talk to or sharing problems about school. But this not stop her to continue her studies.

Plus, the school is equip with computers, projectors, library, 42" televisyen, canteen and field. All of this accessory will be used by her only! The school is run by 3 teachers, its principle M Paramiswary, 54, and 2 other academic teachers, M Jaya Kumar (27) and V Moganathaf (19) who also taking turns teach its only student.

As she will taking her UPSR this year, it is possibly that she will be the last student of the school...

The current Sultan of Terengganu is HRH Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin al-Wathiqu Billah ibni al-marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muqtafi Billah Shah. He is the 16th Sultan of Terengganu. His reign started since 1998.

HISTORY

The Royal house of Trengganu represents one of the junior male lines of the Bendahara family of Johor. They trace their descent from one Aidarus of Aceh, in Sumatra, a Sayyid originating from the Hadramaut in Southern Arabia. His descendants came to rule over four different states, Johor, Trengganu and Pahang in Malaysia and Lingga in Indonesia. In 1717, Zainal-Abidin, the younger brother of the Sultan 'Abdu'l Jalil IV Ri'ayat Shah of Johor established control over the eastern provinces of the kingdom with the title of Maharaja. He secured recognition as the first Sultan of Trengganu from his nephew Sultan Sulaiman I Badr ul-'Alam Shah of Johor in 1725.

His descendants claim to be the senior male-line descendants of the Johor sultans, and thus the rightful heirs to the honours of that kingdom.

Knowledge is power

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you..
Welcome to my blog.

It is already half a year since I started this blog. Before, I'm still a University student and now I officially started my practical this month. And lucky me, I can started my practical closed to home. Maybe a family tradition, all of my other cousins also doing their practical near from home. Everything happens so fast, and just like wise old man once said..

" Just go with the flow"

As I now stayed at home, another "assignment" has been given to me by my mother, babysitting my brother. Of course, both of my brothers will take an important exams of their life... SPM and UPSR. After finishing my studied, now I know how valuable knowledge is. It is not something that you can get without any hardship, that for sure. In this modern world, knowledge is the power.

Maybe nobility or wealth is symbol of power, but without knowledge.. you can't gain it...

Blog Announcement

That's all about my life. I'm still searching for my blog topic for this month. Either cool or hot topic, sometimes it is very hard to decide, many event has occur bot expected and unexpected. Not very good with this "expected the unexpected things". Regardless, I have to follow the scheduled.

Thanks to all readers that has reply to my post up until now.. :)

Ok guys, here are the song from Yuna - Dan Sebenarnya,
